Jim McCoy

Learn about Bobby and his String Band, The Country Blue Boys, The Dewdroppers and many other musicians who were encouraged by Joltin’ Jim McCoy, a major part of the local music scene.

Local musician Andy Boarman played with the All Night Ramblers and eventually made a name for himself with his skills in building and repairing musical instruments. At one point, he was even approached by legendary country musician Chet Atkins to come work for him.

Boarman’s story is one of many told in the upcoming exhibit, “Country Musicians of Berkeley County, 1950s to 1970s,” on view July 23-28 at the Blue Moon Studio and the Country and Western Museum.

The exhibition starts on July 23 with a music evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with performances by local artists who have a connection with Andy Boarman.

Blue Moon Studio created the exhibition to educate the public about important people in the region and to preserve this history for future generations.

“This exhibition is important because there were many talented musicians from our region who contributed their talents to fundraising for causes in need, they entertained us, which brought people together and served as a catalyst for social change, and they sacrificed their free time to pursue their passion,” said Deidre Johnson.

This exhibit is free. “We want people to come in and contribute stories,” she said. “This exhibit is for the community, and the more involvement the better.”

Blue Moon Studio is located at 10724 Winchester Avenue in Bunker Hill.

On Tuesday 23 July there will be a festive opening with a music evening from 18:00 to 19:00, with an exhibition open until 20:00. The studio will be open Wednesday to Friday, 24-26 July, from 16:00 to 19:00 and on Saturday 27 July from 10:00 to 19:00. The exhibition will be open on Sunday 28 July from 13:00 to 18:00.
